Students and staff from Aylsham High School were delighted to be asked to cater for the 20th anniversary Slow Food festival dinner, with more students than ever volunteering to take part.

GCSE Food Preparation and Nutrition students were involved in the cooking, with a team of students from other year groups supporting with setting up and serving the dinner to guests.

Janie Elwes (behind the steam) shows how it’s done.

There was a fantastic buzz behind the scenes, with students getting the chance to experience a real-world, fast-paced kitchen environment, and an opportunity for them to showcase the skills they are learning for their GCSE.

Led through the process by staff and volunteers, who collectively have a huge amount of expertise from the local hospitality industry, the atmosphere was highly focussed, with an emphasis on teamwork, attention to detail, and organisation.

Jane Elwes, food and nutrition teacher at Aylsham High School, said: “We are so proud of our students. They showed an incredible level of care and professionalism, working brilliantly together to create and serve the anniversary dinner.

“It is wonderful to see so many young people supporting such a fabulous community event.”
